What if every class you taught was energy giving rather than depleting?
How much more fun would that be! and I think that right there would be a complete game changer!!
You see I have a tendency to get stuck in a pretty heavy acheivment mindset. This is perhaps left over from my days as an elite athlete and to many hours listening to well meaning coaches and sports psychologist about goal setting. So sometimes, in fact many times I've taken myself way to seriously, have looked outside of myself for answers before trusting myself first and foremost, have wanted to do everything perfectly and be the best I can be with no time for play ......yawn!
I've become pretty aware of this over time and honestly enjoy myself a lot more but a recent Voice and Presence workshop really changed the game for me again!
The biggest takeaway I had was:
Always remember we have choices in the way we hold ourselves, think, speak and teach. We don't have to go into 'autopilot' every time.
This is something I defiantly knew intellectually but wasn't really putting into complete practice. The exercises we did together in the workshop really helped me feel this and understand this on a completly new level.
After teaching my first few classes for the week I have already noticed a powerful change!
Remembering I get to choose how I think, speak, feel and act. Remembering I can use my voice and body language in anyway I need to, just like picking the right tool out of my instructor toolbox is so freeing!
It becomes less about the repertoire and more about the experience you are co-creating with each person in the room. It's more about your intention for the class!
I think If we tie the idea of choices in with having a clear intention for each class along with making it more about them then you, the impact is so powerful! and surprisingly teaching all of a sudden becomes really easy and energy giving rather than depleting!
